The Strange Foundation
The Strange is an internet-infused, riverside mini compound in New York’s forever-wild Catskill State Park, founded in 2018 by myself and my husband, Daniel Morgan. We created the space to support the focused evolution of forward-thinking ideas and their creative manifestations through residencies and retreats, experimental publishing projects, and 1:1 mentorship. Our ultimate goal is to help forge a stranger, more imaginatively regenerative future.
As the Director of The Strange, I oversee all residencies and retreats, publishing projects, and mentorship programs. So far, we have hosted more than 50 creative practitioners and groups across disciplines, including the School for Poetic Computation (see a synopsis of their retreat here), POWRPLNT (see a photo of the group at Strange HQ here), and our multiple cohorts of Decelerator residency participants (learn more about the Decelerator program here). We also host artists for affordable, self-directed creative retreats, and offer sliding-scale rental rates to on-mission organizations (learn more here).
We are excited for The Strange to evolve based on the needs of the artists, organizers, and thinkers who come here, and hope the project inspires people to contemplate what’s possible when inventive technologies, nature, and our imaginations come together in ambitious, caring collaboration. <3
